Let's make Christmas handmade again

It's been really stormy outside for a few days now, starting with a flurry of snow that transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland, and now the blasting winds of Storm "Bert" are howling through the trees. Why do storms have names these days?

Anyway, with the tempest raging outside, it has been the perfect time to hunker down indoors, cosy up and get on the sewing machine to create some pretty unique gifts! Each stitch feels like a little act of love, and I relish the thought of giving these handmade treasures to my friends and family. There’s something special about creating unique presents during a season that feels rushed and commercialised.

I can't help but think that every year there is talk of the stress of not knowing what gifts to buy for friends and family, and I was having a little daydream about spending a Christmas where the rule is that only homemade gifts are allowed. Just imagine the joy and creativity that would come from this pact! Thinking about it, I felt this palpable wave of a kind of innocent wonder come over me, a feeling that separated me from this consumer-obsessed world that often overshadows the true spirit of Christmas. It would be so easy to bring this day back to a joyful simplicity; it would be so much more fun and thoughtful, allowing us to connect with one another on a deeper level. Who wouldn’t enjoy receiving a gift that was crafted with care and consideration? Would you like to make this pact next year with your loved ones? I think it could truly be a game changer, fostering creativity and thoughtfulness while reducing the stress that often accompanies the holiday season.

With this in mind, I have been making a bunch of these super pretty makeup bags, each one a little different from the last. I thought I would put some in the shop to share with others, but as I am making them, I keep thinking of more friends I want to gift them to! You might enjoy making some too. Let me know if you would like a follow-up tutorial; I promise they are super easy to make!

Wishing you happy holidays with the ones you love X
